Dressage at Hickstead 16th April 2008 The first Unaffiliated show of the season had tests running from 8.30am till 6pm! Winner of both Prelim tests was Sophie Cook on Maaster with 66.80% and 69.09% respectively. Max is Sophie's first horse, having just moved up from ponies. He is a 13 yr old Dutch Warmblood by Ladykiller. Liz Cook told me that he is a really lovely horse who knows and enjoys his work. Following her success, Sophie is going to move up to the Novice section on 3rd May. Sophie is also sponsored by herbal remedy company Maxivita and you can check out her page on www.maxavita.co.uk. The Novice 25 was won by Katy McKeogh and Truly Pokey on 68.80%. This 5yr old mare by More Pokey was bred from Katy's own mare. This was her first novice after only a few outings! Elementary 42 went to Sue Atkin and Replay with 66.88%. This 10yr KWPN by Welt Hit has had a year off following colic surgery. Sue said he was like an unexploded bomb to bring back into work but has now settled well! They were second in the Elementary 43. The winner of the Elementary 43 was Jane Clarke and Jurassic Rising. This 16yr old ex Advanced eventer was ridden by Pippa Funnel and retired two and a half years ago to Jane. His former owner, Anne, had owned him since he was 6 months old and wanted him to go to a good home to do other things. The pair were 3rd in the Elementary Championships last year and following their success at this show, plan to move up to the Medium classes next time. Jane described this exceptional horse as "her horse of a lifetime" and says that she "worships him". Sarah Davidson won the Medium 63 with Spud. Sarah has him as a competition livery whilst his owner, Jenny Birkby is pregnant. He is a true all rounder and events and show jumps as well as being successful at dressage. He started competing with Sarah in December at Novice and has since won 5 Elementary classes on the trot with scores of 65% and above. Following his success in this show, Jenny registered him with BD and he competed in the Affiliated show at Hickstead on 20th April - and won the Medium Qualifier! A "delightful, lovely person, who does everything"! The Medium 64 was won by Pauline Harris and Suki on 66%. Pauline bought stunning 7yr old mare late last year and trains her with Dane Rawlins. She has a amazing natural paces which just seem to get better and better! She finds everything very easy and loves her work. PHOTOS TO FOLLOW!!! Thank you to all of you who spoke to me and thank you for your comments regarding the running of the show. Marie, Goody and Kate work so hard to make the show enjoyable and it is really heartening to hear how much you appreciate their friendly, helpful and cheerful approach. |
